Mohammed Wasim Thajudeen was assassinated in May 2012.  He was a Sri Lankan rugby union player.  He played for Havelock Sports Club and the national team. Thajudeen was killed in a car crash which was initially pronounced to be an accident, but currently it is being investigated as a murder.

Several suspects have been arrested and remanded with regard to this case.  A question has arisen with regard to missing body parts of Wasism Thajudeen.  Now, former Colombo Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Dr. Ananda Samarasekera has filed a Fundamental Rights application in the Supreme Court seeking an order preventing the IGP and other officials from arresting him over this case.  Dr.Samarasekera has cited in his petition that this death was due to an accident followed by fire and an order was issued by the Colombo Additional Magistrate to conduct a post mortem.

He has also pleaded court to issue an order to the investigators to produce the reports of the investigations conducted by them so far into this murder.

He has cited 13 officials as respondents in the petition.  It includes Health Ministry Secretary Anura Jayawickrema, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Investigation Committee Chairman Dr. Lakshman C. Somathunga and IGP Pujith Jayasundera.
