Vaiko Jailed In Sedition Case Filed By DMK Regime

General Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) Vaiko was remanded in judicial custody today over a sedition case registered in 2009 by the DMK government and refused to seek bail.

He appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate S Gopinathan and submitted a surrender petition to the court for his alleged role in the sedition case lodged against him for making a speech at a function here in 2009, but refused to execute the bail bond, following which the presiding officer remanded him in judicial custody for a period of 15 days.

Vaiko had participated in a function organized in Chennai to release the Tamil translation of his book ‘I accuse’ which is a compilation of letters written by him to the then Prime Minister about the Central Government’s aid to Sri Lanka during Eelam War IV.

He has he allegedly criticized the Central and State Governments and accused them of abetting the genocide in Sri Lanka.

In his brief order, the Magistrate recorded that the accused surrendered voluntarily and that he was neither served the summons nor was on bail, and hence remanded in custody till April 17 and the trial was yet to commence in the case.
