The Supreme Court has further extended the suspension of Appeal Court judgment on MP Geetha Kumarasinghe from functioning as an MP.

The Supreme Court has too decided to go ahead with the petition filed by Kumarasinghe.

The Deputy Solicitor General has said, according to information received by the Immigration and Emigration Department the MP still holds the citizenship of Switzerland.

The Counsel who appeared for Geetha Kumarasinghe has argued that the Court has no authority to interfere in and influence the internal affairs of the Parliament, and also requested to revoke the verdict of the Court of Appeal on his client.

The Court of Appeal earlier ruled that United People’s Freedom Alliance Galle District MP Geetha Kumarasinghe cannot hold a Parliamentary post as she holds dual citizenship and was against the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

The petition filed by Kumarasinghe was taken up for consideration before a three-member bench.
