Dr. Sameera Senaratne, the CEO SAITM has been temporarily relieved of duties as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SAITM and Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital with immediate effect, SAITM management said today in a statement.

The SAITM management announced that the decision was taken to ensure absolute transparency and facilitate the Police investigations into the attempted shooting at Dr. Senaratne recently.
“We refer to the recent media reports concerning a police investigation into the purported incidents that had allegedly taken place on February 6, 2017.” “In order to ensure absolute transparency and facilitate the police investigations, the Management of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) announces that Dr. Sameera Senaratne has been temporarily relieved of duties as Chief Executive Officer of SAITM and The Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital (NFTH) with immediate effect,” the SAITM chairman said.
Dr. Senaratne too notified the management in writing that he has stepped down from his post effective today, Dr Neville Fernando said in a statement.
The statement further stated that the SAITM management would commence internal inquiries and take appropriate and necessary action to ascertain the truth of this alleged incident.
