The auction of the 16-acre land and house in Malwana land said to be owned by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumar Nadesan was suspended today.

The decision to auction the land was suspended after the Attorney General informed court today that the land will be used for the well-being of the public.

The minimum bid was set for the land wast Rs.208 million and it was alleged the land, and the house on it, belonged to Rajapaksa, and that it was bought using public funds.

It was the Financial Crimes Investigation Division that filed the case against Basil Rajapaksa with respect to the Malwana land and its buildings. Muditha Jayakdody’s name had been mentioned as the owner of this land and property. But his lawyers had told the judiciary that their client has no ownership. As such the Court was informed to take a suitable measure.

However, lawyers for the former Economic Development Minister told Court the land did not belong to their client.
