Malta Hijackers Surrender After Releasing Passengers Of Libyan Flight

The hijacking of Libyan flight ended peacefully and the hijackers who forced the flight to land in Malta are in custody.  .

There were 118 people, including seven crew members, on board.  It was hijacked after taking off from Sabha, bound for the Libyan capital Tripoli.

Instead, the Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A320 was diverted to Malta International Airport.

The hijackers were both male and probably of Libyan nationality and it appears that they were supporters of Libya’s late deposed leader, Muammar Gaddafi.

Speaking at a press conference after the men were arrested, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat revealed the men had been armed with a pistol and a grenade.
