The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) politburo member Kumar Gunaratnam has been granted Sri Lankan citizenship effective from February 01, 2017.

The former JVP politburo member, who was arrested in November 2015 for violating immigration and emigration laws after arriving in the country on tourist visa, was released from the Anuradhapura Prison after the completion of his one year prison sentence on December 2, 2016.

Gunaratnam arrived in Sri Lanka from Australia on January 01, 2015, just days before the last Presidential Election.   He arrived in the island on a 30-day tourist visa which expired on January 31, 2015 but had continued to stay in the country.
