Adama Barrow has been sworn in as president on Gambian soil as the country celebrates 52 years of Independence, marking the end of a tense political disagreement with the West African nation’s former leader.

Adama-borrowHe arrived at the Independence Stadium on Saturday to fanfare in Bakau, waving to supporters from his vehicle.  Several world leaders and thousands of Gambians witnessed Barrow’s second swearing-in ceremony.

“I Adama Barrow do swear I will not directly or indirectly reveal such matters as may be committed to my citizens, so help me God,” the incoming president said.

The oath was taken with Chief Justice Hassan Boubacar Jallow appointed three days ago. Jallow was a United Nations prosecutor.
