In a situation where elections have been postponed indefinitely, the Provincial Chief Ministers representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) have scheduled a meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for a special discussion.

According to the sources, still most of their members feel that they are unable to win an election without the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.  Some of them say that there is a move to handover the responsibility of organizing the coming election campaign to Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Isura Devapriya stated that the meeting will take place on Sunday morning (22) and the former President had agreed to meet them following a request made by him and several other Chief Ministers.  He also stated that the purpose of the discussion was to obtain Rajapaksa’s active involvement in the party campaign for the next Local Government elections by resolving the prevailing political crises within the SLFP.

The Chief Minister added that President Maithripala Sirisena has been briefed regarding the meeting and that the SLFP leader’s intention to resolve the crises within the party and is to face the upcoming election as one team.
