The parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has ordered the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to submit a report on the oil tank farm owned by an Indian company at the Trincomalee harbour.

COPE Chairman Sunil Handunneththi said the Committee has recommended the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to take possession of the oil tanks immediately since the agreement signed in 2003 leasing 14 oil tanks is not valid.

JVP Parliamentarian Nalinda Jayatissa stated that this order was issued subsequent to the Chairman of the CPC being summoned before the COPE for an inquiry.

The MP added that relevant steps would be taken once the COPE committee receives the said report.

The China Bay petroleum storage tank complex was handed over to India’s state-run Indian Oil Corporation in 2002 by the then United National Party (UNP) government which was in power between 2002 and 2004.
